GO2020 | ENGAGE: February Week 3 — PRAYER預覽
February 17—God’s Promise for Prayer
Read
2 Chronicles 20:1–12
Reflect
This week we will discover incredible promises for those who will pray. Over and over God promises to not just hear, but also to answer when God’s people cry out to him! In fact, even more than that wonderful assurance is the understanding that Paul came to as he reflected on how God had answered prayer. He writes:
“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us” (Ephesians 3:20 ESV).
So let’s have faith, as we pray to the Creator of the universe and lover of our souls, that God hears and over-answers our prayers!
In today’s reading the nation of Judah and her king find themselves in dire straits: three nations are coming against them. The king, Jehoshaphat, in his fear of the threat turned to God for help as a godly person should. As you read his prayer, notice the four components that should be part of our prayer:
1. Jehoshaphat begins with worship (verse 6)
2. Jehoshaphat calls to mind examples of God’s past deliverances (verse 7)
3. Jehoshaphat takes hold of God’s promises (verse 8)
4. Based on that, Jehoshaphat requests God’s help (verses 10–12)
Engage
Read today’s Scripture passage. Say or write it out in your own words, considering the following questions:
· What do they say about God?
· What do they say about us?
· Is there a promise to trust?
· Is there a command to obey?
· How will I apply these Scriptures to my life?
· Who will I show that I care by sharing this truth?
Memorize
Now read this week’s memory verse, Jeremiah 33:3. Spend a few minutes beginning to memorize it.
