I Will Not Stop
My job to refelct the living God, failing more often than not, but I will not stop.
There are days that leave us feeling beaten and defeated by the trials that wash over us in this life. For some reason, over the past couple of years, it feels like those days have come more frequently. The constant drumbeat of discouragement can leave us feeling like we have no desire to move forward.
We just want to quit.
That it is a feeling in which God, Himself, is very sympathetic. He knows the hurt and brokenness that you are experiencing. He knows the feelings of failure or weariness that you are going through. Not only does He know and sympathize, but He wants to help you find a way through it, as well. As Isaiah reminds the people of God:
He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted, but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. ~ Isaiah 40:29-31
God does not look down on you because you are going through a hard season. Actually, it is the complete opposite—He wants to give you the strength that you need to get back up and get after it. Our ability to be strong, patient, and loving over the long haul is fully dependent on relying on God to give us grace when we need it.
Jesus gives us both a challenge and a reminder in John 15:4, “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.” To carry on, we need Him. We need Him to provide the fuel that helps us press on through another day.
We won’t stop because we have the greatest source of help and hope on the planet. We will keep at it one day at a time—until we see Jesus face to face.
