Scripture

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12

Summary

You ever wonder why you're so tired after services on Sunday? It's because you weren't just playing music, you were waging war. You were in a battle. You couldn't see it, but fiery darts were being shot at you. And you were firing back at the enemy with every note you played and word you sang. You were in a cosmic battle against very powerful forces. That's why you feel drained. It's not primarily a musical work you engage in. It's a spiritual one. Every time you stand on stage and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, you are waging war against evil rulers of darkness. Remember this each time you are scheduled. Prepare yourself spiritually. Guard your mind and emotions. Pray, fast, and ask God to strengthen you. Then, with the power of the Holy Spirit... get up on stage and wage war!

Discussion Questions

1. What is something new you learned (or were reminded of) from this lesson?

2. How do you typically prepare yourself spiritually before you serve? What do you do?

3. After the victory (of successfully serving) do you find temptation comes? Why?

4. Any other thoughts, comments, ideas or questions you'd like to share?

Closing Prayer

Mighty God, strengthen us for battle. Strengthen our spirits, souls, minds, and bodies for the task you have called us to. Thank you that the victory belongs to you. Thank you that He who is in us, is greater than he who is in the world. Thank you that Satan is a tiny bug compared to you. We rebuke his work in our lives and in our church. We ask for your victory as we wage war on behalf of your Kingdom. Help souls come from darkness to light through our service to you. In Jesus' name. Amen.
