Wrong Relationships Sabotage Success

I have a philosophy that I live by:“Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.”

When someone lies, cheats, or is insensitive to your feelings, it speaks loudly about the quality of their character – their morals, attitudes, ethics, and personal constitutions. The closer and more vulnerable we become to a person, the more we learn about that person.

Once you're hurt, quit doing business with him unless someone comes to you and confesses their fault and expresses genuine remorse. If they hurt you once, they’ll do it again. It’s who they are, and they won't change quickly. It's an inside issue, and inside things take time.

I've met people with great potential for success. I've even tried working with them. Had they been quality people on the inside, we both would be in victory land now. Somehow, I discovered their lack of character, so, business-wise, I had to disassociate myself from them.

You need help, but only from the right people. Choose your partners wisely. Assess those around you because they either help or hinder you.

Think about it:

Who are the people you spend the most time with? Have you found yourself being more positive or negative after being around them? Do you feel like your relationship with God has grown since you’ve become friends with them? Is your career growing because of them? If you have kids, would you be happy if your kids grew up to be like your friends?

Pray about it:

God, open my eyes to the relationships around me. Please show me the people I need to spend more time with and those I need to spend less time with. Please help me to be a good friend and to encourage others to live for you. Thank you for sending Jesus, the ultimate Friend. In His name, Amen.

Do something about it:

Prayerfully begin to assess your time. Try to spend more time with the people who encourage you to follow Jesus, and be intentional when you spend time with people who don’t. Find someone to hold you accountable for your commitment to making better relationship choices.
