God is in Control

Life doesn’t always go the way we want it to. Challenges or unexpected things can happen anytime. We never expect to be heartbroken. We don’t want the bullying. We avoid losing a close friend. We feel hurt because of all the comparisons we often make. We don’t want our parents to separate. We feel helpless seeing our bad grades. Each of us face different challenges, but what all of us have in common is one answer that we can always be sure of.

And this is the answer: that God is in control—He is greater than anything we face. We might feel powerless, worried, or be under overwhelming pressure because our strength is limited and we can only see as far as the eye can see. But God knows everything. He is not surprised at all by anything we face. He sees a billion other things that we’re unable to see or even think of.

So, our part is this: to focus on Him. To believe that He is in control and is powerful enough to protect us. He is in control when the outcomes are in line with our plans and desires, and is still in control when they are not what we expect them to be. Even when He doesn’t change our circumstances or make them any easier, He can work within us and strengthen us with His limitless power.

“Selama kuhidup (As long as I live)

Apapun musimku (Whatever season I’m in)

Kupercaya kebesaran-Mu (I trust in Your greatness)

Kekuatanku di dalam-Mu” (My strength is found in You)

- Kebesaran-Mu

Unchanging

We often let our own experiences and feelings take up too much space in our minds. We worry about what our friends think of us, or the “likes” and “followers” we get on social media that we continuously compare to others’, the things that we feel insecure about, and the list just keeps on going. When we let our fears take over our thoughts and rely on our own strengths, it’s easy for us to be skeptical and lose sight of what is truly important in this life. Through this devotion, let’s learn to focus on God, the Unchanging One. The One who holds our lives, the One we can always depend on. Our perspectives and the way we live will be transformed when our eyes are fixed on Him.
