 Jesus’ First Miracle

Jesus and His mother, together with the disciples, were invited to a wedding in Cana. During the wedding feast, the wine supply ran out. Nearby were six large stone jars. Jesus told the servants to fill the jars with water. When the jars had been filled right to the top, Jesus told the servants to scoop some out and take it to the master of the banquet. When the master tasted the water that had been turned into wine, he was surprised that they hadn’t served this wine first, because it was the best wine he had ever tasted.

This was the first miracle Jesus did and the first time He showed His glory to people. This made His disciples believe in Him even more.

Jesus’ first miracle was to help someone out of a tight spot—to save the bridegroom from being very embarrassed. Like the water in the jars, Jesus wants to turn the ordinary things in your life into something special and meaningful. Trust Him and obey Him.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT: The servants did what they were told without question. Can you obey Jesus without question too?

FACT: Water jars often stood at the entrance of a house so that people could wash their hands before eating (Mark 7:3-4).
