Be Clean!

In one of the villages, Jesus met a man with a terrible skin disease called leprosy. When the man saw Jesus he begged to be healed. “Lord, if You are willing, You can heal me and make me clean.”

Jesus reached out His hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” He said. “Be clean!” Straight away the leprosy left the man and his skin was clean and smooth.

Leprosy was a very bad skin disease that could spread to anyone touching the person. Everyone knew that by touching those sores on the skin one could get leprosy too, and die. It is likely that no one had touched this man for a long time. Maybe the man longed for someone to care enough to touch him. Jesus did.

In a way, our hearts have a terrible disease too – a disease called sin. Jesus, who is sinless and pure, came to earth to walk alongside us sinners to show how much He loves us. He was willing to take all our terrible sin and put it on Himself. He died so that we could be healed and live.

SOMETHING TO PRAY ABOUT: Jesus, please forgive my sins and make my heart clean. Amen.

TRUTH: In Bible times, anyone who had leprosy would not be allowed to go near other people and would have to shout out, “Unclean!” (Lev. 13:45-46).
