Speak the truth, in love

Jesus came to Earth to teach us how to love. His command, “As I have loved you, so you must love one another” (John 13:34, NIV) is to tell us that our lives, as His own, need to be governed by love. 

If we desire to be like Jesus, we have to learn to love all manner of people. As we grow in His likeness, we will take on the mantle of love, guided by the Holy Spirit.

We need to tell others about the love of Jesus and encourage them to turn from the world’s ways of greed, hatred, criticism, pride and sin. Love is the way we must live, to all manner of people. We cannot discriminate against people of different nations. We are all equal in God’s eyes and as followers of Jesus, God’s Son, we need to show the same compassion, love and kindness to everyone. 

We may have great ability in a particular field—leading, teaching, speaking, preaching . . . but if in all these achievements we have no time to care for another human being, then our prowess counts for nothing. We may be considered great in people’s eyes, but not in God’s.

God created us all in love, and that is what He wants us to be, above all other achievements with which He has gifted us. Love is the one gift that reaches out to everyone—a reflection of God’s love for us. Through the gift of His Son, humankind has learned the high standard of love that God has set. Show love to one and all; in this way you honor God. 

Prayer 

Fill my heart with love, dear Lord, and enable me to love others, just as You love them. Amen.
