Have you ever traced your family history back to descendants who lived centuries before you? It is an interesting journey to find out how your family came about. If you’re part of a church or simply learning about what church is, there is a very long history, much like a family would have. The church traces all the way back to the book of Acts, and we attribute its growth completely to the Holy Spirit’s power. Remember that power that is in you? That power gave the early believers in Jesus the boldness to share the story of Jesus to those around them, and it grew exponentially.

The early believers heard the story of Jesus and could not help but share it with those around them. If you’re reading this, you’re likely interested in, curious about, or simply learning more about the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Hopefully, you have begun to discover that there is not another story in human history that compares to the story of Jesus. It has the power to change your life because we can trace back in time to see that it has been changing lives since the beginning of the Church.

If the apostles didn’t have the Holy Spirit when they went out to preach the gospel in Acts, they would have simply been telling a story on their own. However, the Holy Spirit empowered them, and because of that, the body of believers grew from a small number of believers to becoming a worldwide movement that now is what we know to be the Church. This story is LOUD, and it is continuing to grow louder. Will you be part of amplifying the story of Jesus, or will you choose to hold it inside?

Holy Spirit, give me the courage and boldness to share the story of Jesus with those around me who have never heard it. Let me be a follower of Jesus who amplifies His story with my words and how I live my life. Help me to be part of growing Your church, God, in whatever ways that might be! Amen.
