Have you ever needed to say something bold to someone, but you needed someone there to give you an extra ounce of courage? Often when we need to be bold, it’s hard to do it on our own, but having someone there helps us to be bolder.
Boldness can bring different definitions, though. What do you think of when you hear “bold”? Do you think of someone highly opinionated or blunt? Do you think of someone who speaks the truth even when nobody agrees? Boldness with humility and faith is what God desires. Boldness with pride often produces arrogance, which is quite the recipe for disaster. Often we may feel like there is something we need to say–your heart rate goes up, your stomach may begin to hurt, and your body temperature rises. With the Holy Spirit, we can have the boldness to say the things that need to be said in truth and love.
If we are bold simply on our own, without the Holy Spirit, it often looks like the version of boldness that we don’t want–opinionated, blunt, and arrogant. When we are bold because the Holy Spirit has given us that boldness, it is almost like we become the mouthpiece of the Holy Spirit, and we aren’t saying our own words. He is speaking through us because it’s for a purpose beyond ourselves.
The Holy Spirit living in you is all you need to share the gospel. You don’t need a script, a list of guidelines, or specific details on how to do it. You simply need the Holy Spirit. He is the best friend you need by your side to give you the words needed to be said in truth and love.
Pray this Prayer:
Holy Spirit, thank You for being with me. Help me to be bold even when I don’t feel like I am. Remove any of my own words, my pride, and my opinions, and speak only Your truth in love. Help me be humble but speak words of life to those who need to hear them. Amen.
Thanks for completing this reading plan! We pray that this helped you get connected to Jesus. We would love to hear from you about how God used this plan in your life. Keep the conversation going by emailing us at keeptalking@secc.org.
