God has feelings, too! But sometimes, we think God shouldn’t. We think God is above things in life that drive us to feel deeply or that God’s bigger picture would make things easier to deal with as they come. But that’s not the case! God expresses lots of feelings, especially when bad things happen. In John 11, Jesus’ friend had just died, and when He found out, Jesus wept. Nothing stopped Jesus from feeling His deep feelings in that moment. And that’s a model we can follow for ourselves. When bad things happen, you have permission to feel deeply. After all, Jesus did, too!
Today, express what you’re feeling in a creative and thoughtful way. It could be going outside and yelling as loud as you can, painting a picture that shows what’s going on in your heart, or simply spending time writing down your thoughts and emotions in your journal. Whatever it is, find a way to express how you feel.
