NO MORE ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT

A few years ago, I was at the park with my sons. They were playing basketball, and my mom and I sat in the car watching. Suddenly, two dogs ran toward the court! One was small and cute. The other? A husky that looked like a wolf! Before I could say, “Don’t run,” my oldest son took off, and the dog chased him! Instead of running to the truck (where safety was), he ran past it, into the street, and almost completely out of the subdivision.

I jumped out of the truck, calling his name repeatedly, but he couldn’t hear me. It was over; He was completely fixated on the dog! Did you know FIXATION is another word for arrested development? Fear had arrested his hearing. He couldn’t hear me calling him. Fear had arrested his sight; he didn’t realize he was running into danger. He ran into the street without looking for cars once. Fear had arrested his mind; he couldn’t think clearly. My little son ran right past my truck, the place of safety, when all he had to do was get in the car!

My son was fixated on that dog. What’s your fixation?

●Rejection?

●Failure?

●Fear of the unknown?

Fixations rooted in fear can be paralyzing.

Have you ever felt stuck or paralyzed? Like you should be further along, but something keeps holding you back?

When growth stops prematurely, it’s called arrested development. And guess what? Fear loves arrested development. Fear has one job: to halt your progress. If your forward motion feels blocked, if you’re hesitant to take that next step, fear may be at work. We are not ignorant of the enemy’s devices (2 Corinthians 2:11), and this is one of them - keeping you stuck and afraid to move forward, keeping you from development.

God is all about growth, progress, and productivity. The Father cuts down trees that don’t bear fruit. He prunes what’s growing so that it can produce more. If growth is God’s way, then stagnation isn’t from Him.

So, if you’re stuck, it’s time to ask: What’s stopping me? What’s got me arrested in my development?

Often, the culprit is the fear of something.

No more running away in fear. No more fixations on evil outcomes. Fix your eyes on Jesus. Run TO Him and find security. He wants you to be fully developed in every area of your life.

"The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are safe."

●Pray and ask the Lord to show you the areas in your life where arrested development has settled in.

●What should you have done, said, accomplished, or conquered by now?

●Agree with heaven’s plan for your future, and begin to run into His safe place. Build your trust in the place where you know He will always be there for you.
