Survive a Sneak Attack

A sneak attack is when the enemy catches you by surprise. This could be an unexpected marital separation, divorce, or break-up. It could be a sudden death in the family or friend. It could come as a job loss, illness, or issue that you just didn’t see coming. But even in the middle of a sneak attack, God is not surprised–and He's already equipped you with inner strength through His Spirit to stand firm and fight right.

Sis, when life hits us hard, God is aware and near. He sees it all. There is nothing that goes unnoticed. He cares about all that concerns us. And He will work all things out for our good because we love Him, and because we’re called according to His purpose.

Before Job was attacked in a barrage of unforeseen trials, Satan was roaming around to and fro until God asked him, “Have you tried my servant, Job?” As I’ve read and meditated on the book of Job over the years, his story reassures me that Satan can’t have access to me unless God allows it. When Satan strikes, he can only do so much. God knew that victory was coming after Job experienced so much loss and pain. And the same goes for you and me. We will have victory in the end, too!

One of the ways to survive a spiritual attack is to know your God. Know that He promises to never leave you, nor forsake you. This takes faith. He tells us to cast our cares upon Him. This takes surrender. He encourages us to trust Him with all our heart and to not lean on our own understanding. This takes supernatural strength.

Another way to survive a sneak attack is to remember that your weapons of warfare are not carnal. You're engaged in a spiritual battle. The enemy is not your spouse, child, friend, family member, boss, or leader. It's Satan and his camp. When Jesus told Peter, "Get thee behind me!" Jesus was addressing the spirit of influence behind Peter's words due to his fear of him going to the cross. This shift in perspective will not only help us see who our real enemy is, it will enable us to respond to the situation with discernment, wisdom, renewed strength, and faith.

So when you encounter a sneak attack, I want to encourage you to stand firm, stay prayed up, and fight right. Also, be sure to stay close to Jesus, the Vine. And remember, Satan cannot have access to you, your family, or anything that you own without God allowing it. The Lord knows that you will make it through to the other side, just like Job did. So continue to stand strong and know that your victory is sure!
