Matthew 5:8 — Blessed are the pure in heart
You become pure in heart by putting your faith into practice. We need ongoing forgiveness and cleansing from sin to have pure hearts (Jeremiah 4:14). In our worship we lift up clean hands and a pure heart to God (Psalm 24:4-5). We defile our heart by sinning, and it is cleansed by believing and obeying. Whoever believes in Jesus Christ is cleansed by His Spirit, just as He Himself is clean. Jesus came to this world to take away sin. He is sinless and completely pure. At His return we will see Him as He is and we shall be like Him. This is our hope as Christians, and in this we purify ourselves even now. God accomplishes this by allowing His Spirit to dwell in our hearts and work in us through His Word. That is how He renews our defiled heart. Then we will start living as God's children, becoming like Jesus, abiding in Him and bearing fruit (John 15:1-8). The pure in heart have rid themselves of unrighteousness and have consecrated themselves to the Lord.
A true Christian seeks cleansing daily and strives for the holiness, without which no one will see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14). They distance themselves from wrongdoings and determine not to sin (1 John 3: 2-6). The pure in heart wholly focus on God, and have no desire other than to know and obey God. Their hearts are filled with hunger and thirst for God's righteousness. The pure in heart will be fully satisfied because they will see God. That blessedness is promised to them. Only the pure in heart will see God. He is perfectly holy and no one with an unclean heart will enjoy seeing God in all His purity. This desire is foremost for the pure of heart, for those who are truly sanctified. And only the sight of God will satisfy them (Matthew Henry). This is an overwhelming and comforting encouragement: that all who are pure in heart will see God.That should bring perfect happiness to your soul!
