When addiction damages your identity, God provides a new name and purpose.

Addiction will push and pull you in every direction until your struggles begin to feel like your identity. The things you’ve done, the people you’ve hurt, and the bad habits you’ve fallen into can start to define how you see yourself. Instead of recognizing your worth, you begin to wear labels like failure or addict. And over time, those labels start to feel permanent. You may begin to believe you’re too far gone, that your past will always define you, and that real change isn’t possible.

But God doesn’t see you through the lens of your past; He sees you through the lens of His grace. In Jesus, He gives you a brand new identity based on the things He is calling you to. God renames you to reflect His purpose, not your past.

Prayer

God, thank you that I’m not who I used to be. Thank you for giving me new life. Even when I struggle to believe it, remind me that You’ve made me new. Help me walk in that truth today. Amen.
