Bits And Pieces

DAY 7 OF 10

Not a day goes by without seeing some advertisement for the newest game, system, or DLC that is coming out soon. It’s like we live in a constant state of anticipation - just waiting for the next great thing. I recently pre-ordered a highly advertised game that is a “spin-off” from my favorite gaming series of all time. I’ll catch myself looking at my “purchased” folder on my system’s hard-drive, just to look at the on-screen countdown they provide until it will be available to download. Now THAT is a state of anticipation!

As today’s Bible verse shows, we should be living in a MUCH larger state of anticipation for the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Our citizenship is in HEAVEN! All these games we play, and other hobbies we take part in, will one day be a thing of the past. We will probably have WAY more fulfilling and exciting things to do than play earthly games once we enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

Games can be a fun and healthy way to pass the time – when done in moderation. Let us not ever forget that our citizenship is in Heaven. Let us walk worthy of our calling and be lights to this broken world. Let us also ask ourselves a very important question. Are we looking forward MORE to the newest game release, than we are to the return of Jesus Christ? Are we placing MORE of a focus on earthly pursuits, than we are on building God’s character? The answer to these questions is vital to our Eternal well-being.

Let us be sure that we are taking the time each day to monitor our thoughts and desires, so that they match up with God’s will. It is very easy in this age of such astounding technology to lose sight of our true calling. Let’s make sure that we are putting God first, and not making idols out of our hobbies. A God centered life is a life worth living.

About this Plan

Bits And Pieces

It is my hope that you put down the controller and pick up your Bible. It is vital for us to broaden our horizons in life. This is especially true for gamers, who have a high tendency to be more isolated than most people. This devotional should help you be more aware of the spiritual lessons contained in a lot of the games we play. Praise be to God!
