Becoming A Connected FatherSample
Day 1: Introduction
Congratulations on starting this new YouVersion Bible Reading Plan for Becoming a Connected Father from Manhood Journey. We believe you can learn to be a confident, godly dad who leads his family with no regrets.
This reading plan is a summary of many of the things taught in the full digital course called The Connected Father filled with videos, podcasts and downloadable tips and tools.
First, a brief word about Manhood Journey. Manhood Journey is a ministry who helps dads become disciple makers. We do this through various tools: blogs, eBooks, Field Guides, Bible studies, digital courses and live events.
What we’ll cover in Becoming a Connected Father Bible Reading Plan:
My guess is you’re a dad who wants to be intentional in how you’re raising your children. You want them to relate to God in a personal way, to be guarded from evil, to grow up to be strong men and women. But, this life makes doing that difficult!
In fact, of the thousands of dads we’ve worked with, many of them have this gnawing sense that they’re failing – that they’re not “doing enough” for their kids. Maybe you share that feeling. You want to do the right thing, but you just feel like you’re missing the mark.
We hear this sense of failure and even exasperation among our dads – we hear some common struggles, dads wrestling with the same questions:
- “How can I be the leader I know God wants me to be?”
- “How can I overcome my own failures as a dad and re-earn the trust of my wife and kids?”
- “How can I get my kids to open up to me and tell me what’s on their hearts and minds?”
- “How do I balance my time – making sure I give the right amounts to work, my wife, my kids, and other interests, hobbies, or volunteer projects?”
- “How do I train my kids well, helping them to lead a life that honors God?”
In this reading plan, we’re going to address these questions, and more.
Dad Challenges, categorized
We’ve taken the dozens of challenges we’ve heard from dads and organized them into three key solution categories. They aren’t “sequential” – they’re things we’re all working on all the time, to varying degrees. Imagine these three things as big buckets, with other topics inside them:
LEADERSHIP
Here we’ll talk about managing our time, setting the right example, battling outside influences, and even controlling our temper – this topic makes us so angry!
COMMUNICATION
This is where we’ll look at ways to get our kids talking, much of this will hinge on our listening skills and asking them great questions
TRAINING
On these reading days, we’ll talk about boundaries, disrespect and setting clear expectations
Within each of these three categories, we’ll cover four key strategies you can use to grow as a dad. So, over the whole reading play, you’ll get 12 strategies you can use, with practical stories and suggestions for implementing each one. Each strategy has an anchor scripture verse.
We’re committed to helping you become The Connected Father that deep down we know you want to be—that God wants you to be.
