Walking With Jesus

DAY 32 OF 40

Become a Giver

Self-discovery:

  • God gives us a conditional promise that He will add all things to us (Matthew 6:33). In principle, love always involves sacrificial giving. “You will only love that which you sacrifice for.” – Fred May
  • Where should our treasure be? (Matthew 6:19-21). Here Jesus teaches that our hearts follow our treasures (our treasures do not follow our hearts).
  • What are the dangers of wanting to get rich? (1 Timothy 6:9-10). There is no problem with having money. But the love of money (or greed) is the root of all kinds of evil.
  • Give to other believers (1 John 3:17-18)
  • Our attitude when we give. (2 Corinthians 9:6-8)
  • Why does God make people rich? (2 Corinthians 9:10-11)
  • Tithes, offerings and alms (Malachi 3:10). The standard of giving into the storehouse (local church) is ten percent of our finances. Scripture also speaks about making offerings (over and above the tithe) and giving alms (to the poor). Always remember that everything we have belongs to God, not just ten percent.
  • Stewardship (Acts 17:25). The principle of stewardship is that we are not the owners, but only the stewards of what God has entrusted to us. Scripture tells us to be good stewards of our lives, bodies, possessions, spiritual gifts, finances and self-worth. In other words, we become caretakers of what we’ve been given.
