Take the Lead

DAY 1 OF 5

Have you ever been asked to do something you really didn’t want to do by a parent, teacher, or coach? Maybe you thought it was beneath you, or you thought a younger sibling or someone else who was newer to the team should do it.

If you want to take the lead, you have to jump in and do what needs to be done, no matter how small or unimportant it may seem.

What did Jesus have the disciples do in this story? They passed out food and cleaned. Talk about terrible jobs! But, these seemingly small, unimportant actions allowed a large crowd of people to encounter Jesus.

The small tasks matter. And, when you do the small tasks well, you build trust that may later lead to bigger things. The disciples didn’t just run errands and clean stuff up all the time. Jesus eventually gave them power and authority to heal people, cast out demons, and entrusted them with spreading His message.

Is there anything you’ve been asked to do lately that you didn’t want to? How can you take the lead in that situation?

Day 2

About this Plan

Take the Lead

Jesus led by listening, loving, caring, and serving others. Jesus told His apprentices, “In this world the kings and great men lord it over their people... But among you it will be different. Those who are the greatest among you should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be the servant” (Luke 22:25-26). This is what it means to take the lead.
