Walking With Jesus Sample
Sometimes we just don’t get it! You know what I mean? We chase after fame, money, and power. We can go to church faithfully, do these Bible plans consistently, but if we aren't careful we can turn these things into a checklist. We are called to love and forgive, but our spirits do anything but that when we are stressed, hurt or disappointed.
The easy thing to do is fall into the trap of guilt over not being enough, leading to shame where we truly believe we do not and will never measure up. Do you know what is the most freeing thing in the world? It’s reading scripture and realizing that God uses messy people, like you and I, to accomplish His mission. One of my all-time favorite books is Messy Spirituality by Michael Yaconelli.
He says “What if genuine faith begins with admitting we will never have our act completely together? Maybe messy disciples are exactly the kind of imperfect people Jesus came to earth for and whose company he actually enjoyed--and still enjoys.”
I know that sounds crazy, but look at the men and women of faith throughout the Bible. Noah, Abraham, Rahab, David, Mary, Paul, and so many of our biblical heroes were a mess. If this doesn’t spell it out, I don’t know what will - right after Jesus led his disciples in the Last Supper and this new covenant significance of his broken body and shed blood, the disciples began to argue among themselves about who would be the greatest among them.
Sometimes we just don’t get it! But Jesus continued to teach them and love them.
Today’s Scripture: Luke 22:19-29
Pray. Ask God to reveal to you His truths as you read His Word. Don’t skip this important step.
Read: As you read ask the “5 W’s and an H” questions: Who? What? When? Where? Why? How?
Daily Challenge: Be quick to admit when you don’t get it. But also give yourself some grace and allow yourself to grow and learn. Remember, faith is a journey, not a race.
