Five Myths About CEOsSample
Five Myths About CEOs - Part I
In their book, The CEO Next Door, authors Elena Botelho and Kim Powell dived deeply into survey data to determine what similar attributes surfaced for successful CEOs. Their findings debunked several myths we sometimes hold about CEOs. We will examine five of these myths in this Bible reading plan.
One finding these researchers discovered discredits the belief that successful CEOs have a larger-than-life personality. In fact, the study revealed the opposite. Self-described introverts were slightly more likely to exceed their board’s expectations.
Genesis 25:27 says, "When the boys grew up, Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field, while Jacob was a quiet man, dwelling in tents."
Jacob became a very astute and successful leader despite his introverted personality. Don’t let your personality define or limit what God has called you to accomplish.
Questions for Reflection:
- Why do you think some people believe most CEOs have a larger-than-life personality?
- Do you think God is discrediting Esau’s personality and endorsing Jacob’s? Why or why not?
- Who would you respond to more positively, a CEO that is larger-than-life or a CEO that is self-deprecating?
