The Prayer That We May Be Humble
As we touched on in Day 1 we can live in grace and peace when we operate in humility. The challenging thing about humility is that we do not just wake up one day humble. It takes work.
Today's scripture tells us to do NOTHING without selfish ambition or vain conceit. Wow. In our self-involved society, being self-centered is what is modeled. Virtually everything is designed for our pleasure from restaurants to social media to theme parks. Even gyms have mirrors everywhere so we can look at ourselves. Almost everything is built for entertaining ourselves rather than the benefiting of others. But the apostle Paul is telling us in today's passage, even in the good things like planting a church or starting a ministry; to make sure that we are doing it for the interest of others and the glory of God.
How drastically would our lives change if we did everything with the one simple motive of serving others? The bible is clear that we reap what we sow. We must be convinced that every deed is a seed that we will reap at some point in our lives. When we sow into the lives of others, the seed may not benefit us down the road although the one thing the bible guarantees is that God isn't mocked, and we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. The lower we go the higher God takes us.
