WHAT DOES IT SAY?
Read: John 4:7–10
WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
Could there really be more? Unaware of what was about to occur, the Samaritan woman journeyed to the well for another ordinary day to get water. What she thought would be another routine event ended up being a life-changing encounter.
As we read these scriptures, we can see that she was looking to satisfy a natural thirst … she was thirsty and needed water. She didn’t know that her soul was even more in need of being quenched. As Jesus entered the scene and talked with this woman, He began to tell her that He was the well who could satisfy her soul.
In verse 10, Jesus said, “If you knew who I was, you would ask me for living water.” Jesus was letting her know that she could run to Him and that He would satisfy her soul. The Samaritan woman’s encounter with Jesus opened her eyes to see that Jesus had what she had been looking for. Her search ended when she realized that Jesus was the SOURCE!
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO US?
We are all searching for something … something more than what we’ve seen or experienced. Many are longing for peace, hope, love, and maybe even a reason to live. When you look at your life, do you find yourself searching for something to satisfy your soul?
As we read through the scriptures and this devotional, we will see that Jesus is telling us that He is the well we can run to. Instead of the temporary pleasures that the world has to offer, Jesus is longing for us to run to Him so that He can quench the thirst of our souls. Could it be that what this woman found is also what you need, that your search will finally end when we choose to run to Jesus?
WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Take three minutes to list the temporary things you’ve run to satisfy your soul (examples: social media, relationships, work, etc.). Once you’ve written them down, ask Jesus to come and satisfy your soul.
