Parents and Kids Daily Devotional "Look at "Us

DAY 28 OF 31

There’s a quote that says, “If you want to bring peace to the whole world, go home and love your family”.

Many people think of ways to bring about change and peace in the world. Truly, the first step to doing so is by loving the people closest to you, which is your family. Before Jesus was taken up to Heaven, He instructed His disciples to be His witnesses, starting from Jerusalem (closest zone), to Judea, Samaria, and then to the ends of the world. From these words, we learn that if we want to change the world, we have to first start making those changes in our own family.

There are families struggling with internal conflicts. Brothers and sisters aren’t speaking to each other. Children no longer love their parents. Wives no longer respect their husbands for whatever reason. Parents quarrel endlessly. Siblings compete with each other. The house has turned to hell on earth. At the end of the day, everyone is reluctant to come home.

Today, God reminds us to go home and love our family. When love abounds in a family, it automatically overflows to the people around them. It may be difficult in the beginning, especially if we have been hurt. But remember, change starts from within ourselves. Let’s learn to love those closest to us. Think of ourselves less and others more. Learn to forgive and forget the hurt people have caused us.

Devotion for Parents
Do you still hold on to the pain of the past which hinders you from loving your parents or family? If you do, pray for the Holy Spirit to restore your heart.

Have you done anything that may have hurt your family? If you have, ask for forgiveness so that restoration may happen in your family.

Devotion for Kids
Do you feel loved by your family? What makes you feel loved? How do you show your love to your family?

Family Devotion Time
Take turns saying the following: I feel loved when...
(for example, I feel loved when I am being hugged)
You can do this multiple times. By sharing the ways each of you feel love, everyone can better understand how to love each another.
