Mentorship

DAY 3 OF 5

When it comes to finding a good role model, who do you look for? Obviously, no one is perfect; everyone is in need of a relationship with Jesus. So, if everyone is still in the process of still growing in their own relationship with Jesus, what should we look for in a person that would make them a good mentor? I think that Paul does a great job of giving us a variety of examples of what qualities we should be looking for in people we call mentors. 1 Corinthians 11:1 gives us the first quality we should look for: Does this person consistently seek to imitate Christ in their everyday lives? Paul puts himself out there as someone people should follow, not because of who he is but because of who he was imitating. Another question to ask might be: Does this person display the fruit of the Holy Spirit as found in Galatians 5:22-23? And one last thing to look for is this: Does he or she strive to live out the principles found in Romans 12:9-18 toward others? If you can answer “yes” to these questions, then you have probably found a good and Godly role model/mentor

Next Step: As you read the passages of scripture today, take note of the characteristics we are told to look for in godly role models. Make a list of the qualities you see, and use it as you search for spiritual guidance from others!
