Limiting labels
How many people come into church wearing a label that says Warrior, Champion, Overcomer, or Victor, but underneath that Warrior label, there's one that says Worrier, or under the Victor label; it says Victim, perhaps hidden under the Overcomer label there's one that reads Overcome.
These hidden labels are for the wearer, the prominent ones, the ones they alone see in their private mirror. It reflects what they believe and how they see themselves. But unfortunately, these limiting labels come from an incident in their past that wants to affect their future.
In 1 Samuel 17, Goliath came out every day for 40 days threatening the people of God with his usual taunt, keeping the children of God frozen in fear! But, in reality, all Goliath was doing was continuing to reapply negative labels on God's people.
Has the enemy put labels on you? Ones that are meant to harass you and stop you from moving forward?
John 8:36 says, “whom the Son has set free is free indeed.” To that, I say, you are indeed free. It’s already done; it’s past tense! You don't have a need to be free; you already are. Today is the day to strip off the old labels and put on the ones your Father wants you to wear! Here are just a few labels He created for you… He says you are the apple of His eye; He says you have the mind of Christ; He declares you are blood bought, blood washed, redeemed, forgiven, justified, His beloved, His child, more than a conqueror, Victor, warrior, and the list goes on and on! Unfortunately, the Father won't force you to wear those labels, and it’s something you must put on, something you need to do… Start by stripping off the labels that speak of what the enemy wants you to be and start applying the labels that declare who you really are and whose you really are.
Here’s what happens - when you change your label, you change your outlook; when you change your outlook, you change what you see; and when you change what you see, you change what you receive!
Reflection: Have you or have you allowed someone else to put a limiting label on you? Begin today to see yourself the way the Father sees you; as you do, you can remove the old ones and apply the ones the Father’s already written for you!
