DAY 18 OF 28

Draw near to God.

The point James was making in this statement was not to demand followers of Jesus do more than they have to. He was inviting them to respond to what God has already done — drawn near to us. Drawing near to God isn't something we initiate, it's a response to God's desire to know us more.

This is wild and truly hard to grasp. Though it is mind-bending and mysterious, it is also beautiful, humbling, and overwhelmingly comforting.

Are you finding it easy to go to God, or are you feeling disconnected? If you are, it's time to reflect. Remember, God doesn't change, but we all do as we grow.

Ask yourself, what's keeping you from drawing near to God? Are there habits in your life that you need to break? Sometimes, we can lose sight of what God wants for us when we don't take time to draw near to God.

Remember, Jesus gives us a fresh start. He gives us the chance to become a new creation because of Jesus. When we address the areas where we need to change, we begin the process of starting over with Jesus. Talk to God about what you are struggling with, and seek guidance to overcome what might be getting in the way of your relationship with God. When we realize Jesus is always near, we are able to draw near and start again.

About this Plan

I Am

When Jesus was on earth, there were a few times when he told his followers exactly who he was. For the next four weeks, we'll explore some of these stories to find out how Jesus described himself to others. We'll take a look at what changes when we hear Jesus tell us he is love, he is truth, he is always with us, and how he is our Savior.
