Now What?Sample

Would you consider yourself to be a rule follower? Or maybe you have been known to bend the rules a little bit.

The next part of the Great Commission will help us to see what it looks like to choose to follow Jesus in regard to our actions.

Have you thought about that? That our actions can be directly tied to a next step in our faith? Because they absolutely can!

Part of being a human is having free will.

It is built into our wiring to be free to be able to choose to do what we want to do when we want to do it. Granted, some things we want to do could easily get us arrested or could change our reputation or the way people interact or think about us.

But what if I told you that choosing to live in step with what God wants for us, is a way to show the world that you’ve taken a next step with God? Because that is 100% the case!

Our passage today from the book of Exodus shows us the 10 Commandments, which is a very famous part of the Bible. Many people, regardless of whether they would call themselves a Christian, have heard of these before. It was a list of rules God gave to His people.

Now again, because we have free will, we are free to choose to follow or to go against these rules.

Some of these might seem easy for us to follow, like not killing people.

But I bet that others on here might be harder for us to obey, like honoring your mother and father (or whoever is raising you!). There have definitely been times in my life where I deliberately chose NOT to follow what my mom and dad asked of me. And as I’ve grown up I’ve realized that part of honoring God is honoring my mom and dad with my words and actions.

When we start living in accordance with these commands, we start to look at the world differently, and we present ourselves differently. And people will notice! And when they notice, they ask! And when they ask, you get the amazing opportunity to say that you’re living your life this way because it honors God. And boom! You’ve just shared your faith with someone!

Don’t underestimate how your actions and words can lead those around you to Jesus!
