Now What?Sample
Is there someone you’re always with? Someone you’re “connected at the hip” with?
Maybe it’s your best friend, a sibling, a significant other, etc.
Those people in our lives know everything about us, how our day was, what’s bothering us, what we are celebrating. We’re in constant communication with those people in our lives.
The last part of The Great Commission reminds us that Jesus is always with us. So what do we do with that? We pray! Just like how we are constantly communicating with people in our lives, Jesus craves that relationship with us. And we feed that relationship through prayer.
Prayer is a GREAT next step in growing your faith and taking a next step with Jesus.
Prayer is fostering your relationship with Jesus through conversation. That can sound intimidating, so I’m going to share with you one of my favorite ways to begin prayer. I follow the acronym PRAY.
P – Pause
R – Rejoice
A – Ask
Y – Yield
Prayer can happen anywhere. You can do it out loud, you can do it in your heart and mind. It doesn’t really matter, but it has to happen when you’re pausing to talk to Jesus.
Next, rejoice and thank God for what He is doing and has done in your life. That can be thanking God that you made the basketball team. It can be thanking God for the friendships in your life. Or that you live in a place where you have easy access to things like clean water, food, shelter, healthcare, etc. Nothing is too big or too small to thank God for!
After spending time thanking God for the things He has provided for us, we ask or share the things that are going on in our life. For a while, that prayer looked like asking God to give me direction for my life, like where to go to college and what I should pursue as a career. Maybe in your life, you’re seeking answers to prayers that are similar. This is your moment to ask God to show up in those places in your life. Granted, He might not answer right away, or in the ways that we expect. But He is always listening and always right by our side.
My personal favorite part of prayer is allowing God the time to speak to me. Sometimes that looks like God placing a person on your heart that you need to reach out to, or giving you a Bible verse to think about. Allowing God time to share things with you will help you to see where He is guiding you in your life!
My prayer for you is that you’ll be bold and confident and start utilizing this PRAY acronym as you take a step closer to Jesus!
