Parent & Prodigy: Jonah

DAY 1 OF 5

Let's Explore!

Prayer: Begin with a simple and inviting prayer, acknowledging God's presence and guidance. You and your child should open and close with prayer before and after each session.

Overall Objective: Explain that this bible study is an opportunity for you and your child to explore the exciting story of Jonah together, discover important Christian values, and learn about God's character. This is your opportunity to give a general overview of Jonah's story. You don't have to go into details, but just highlight the key events below. We will discuss these key events further in the days to come. You can also begin reading Jonah with your child before we get started!

Story Overview:

  • God calls Jonah to go to Nineveh.
  • Jonah attempts to run away on a ship in the opposite direction.
  • The storm, Jonah being thrown into the sea, and being swallowed by a big fish.
  • Jonah's prayer in the fish's belly and the fish spitting him out.
  • Jonah visits Nineveh, the people's repentance, and Jonah's discontent with God's mercy.

Key Themes:

  • Obedience: listening to God and following His plan.
  • Repentance: saying sorry to God and turning away from wrongdoing.
  • God's Love: how much God loves us and wants us to be close to Him.
  • God's Plans: God has a plan for each of us, just like He had a plan for Jonah.
  • Forgiveness: God forgives us when we ask for His help and say sorry.
