Psalms - Wisdom for LifeSample
How many letters are in your full name? Is it over ten letters? The world record for the longest name belongs to a German man with 26 first names, each starting with the next letter of the alphabet. Then, his surname has over 650 letters!
It isn’t the length of a name that makes it more important or higher than another name; it’s who the name belongs to. There is one name that is above all names. That is the name of God. When you read the Bible, you might notice that sometimes God or Jesus is called different names. Sometimes, He might be called God, other times Lord, or Jesus or Christ.
The book of Psalms was originally written in the Hebrew language, and throughout Psalms, God’s name is expressed in many different ways.
- Mighty - El, Eloah (Psalm 18:32)
- Creator - Elohim (Psalm 29:2)
- Healer - Yahweh-Rapha (Psalm 103:2-3)
- Shepherd - Yahweh-Rohi (Psalm 23:1)
- Everlasting - El-Olam (Psalm 90:1-2)
- Most High - El Elyon (Psalm 78:35)
- Lord Of Lords - Yahweh-Elohim (Psalm 59:5)
Each name teaches us more about God and how we can put our hope in Him. God is Mighty, Creator of the universe, Healer, Provider, Everlasting, Most High and Lord who rules over all. His name is higher than any trouble we face. You and I have troubles, sometimes big, sometimes small. God doesn’t take away all our troubles, but in those troubled times He is with us, He sustains us, He provides, He heals and we can put our hope in Him.
