Take a BowSample

If we’re being honest, we all want to be told we’re doing a good job. We want to get that stamp of approval, that top of the list, that gold star that tells the world we’re good at something. We want to be recognized for our efforts and have others validate our actions. By itself, this isn’t bad at all. It’s normal! But that doesn’t mean it’s the best place to seek approval. Sure, putting all our confidence and worth into being the best at something is easy, but what happens when that changes or goes away?
Instead of seeking approval from others, we can find our worth in doing all we do for God. Not to gain God’s approval but to honor God in everything we’re good at, try, and do. When we make our good works about that, it changes the way we approach them. Then, we come with both confidence and humility that we’re doing it all for the Lord, no matter the outcome.
Take inventory of your accomplishments. What motivates you to succeed? What would it look like to pivot your gaze from the applause of this world to living only to please God? Talk to your Small Group Leader, a parent, or another adult about that.
