Untold Stories: Remembering the Faithfulness of GodSample

Known By You
What does it mean to know God? What does it mean to be known by God? In Matthew 7, the Bible tells us not everyone who says ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only those who do the Father’s will. We can prophesy, cast out demons, and even do mighty works in His name, but never intimately know Him. This is truly a humbling statement.
The difference between true disciples and false disciples is in the keeping of His commands. We know we have come to know Him if we obey His word and listen to His voice. When we look at the original Greek in 1 John 2:3, the word ‘keep’ is tereo, which means to attend to carefully, to guard, take care of, and to observe. If we say we know Him but do not do what He commands, we are liars. We must attend to His word and keep it close to our hearts. If we claim to be followers of Jesus, we must actually live as Jesus did. Our love for God is made complete through this.
In John 10:27, Jesus says, "My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me." Do you recognize His voice when He is speaking? Do you follow when He directs? As we grow in relation with our Savior, we become familiar with His voice and His ways.
Pray this prayer with me:
Lord, let us not be deceived by the works we can perform but create in us a desire to serve only you. Search me, God, and know my heart. Test my thoughts and see if there is any offensive way in me. Lead me in the way everlasting. I want to intimately know you as you intimately know me.
