Untold Stories: Remembering the Faithfulness of God

DAY 5 OF 10

Friend

What does it mean to be a friend of God? I honestly think that this is one of the hardest concepts to attain in our relationship with God. Why? Because most of us are really not sure what being a good friend looks like. If we are honest with ourselves, we are not always a good friend to others. The world uses this term so loosely. But true friendship is much deeper than mere acquaintances or people we connect with and follow on social media. Being a friend is not even like being a brother or sister because those are chosen for you. To be a true friend is a choice that you have to make every day. It is a choice to be loyal, to always believe the best about the other person, to remain faithful, to be patient, and to remain selfless.

Abraham was called God’s friend because he believed Him. His loyalty and belief in what God said had to be beyond rational thinking because what God was saying was extraordinary. In John 15, Jesus shares with His disciples the intimate details of His purpose on earth and explains that they were His friends IF they were faithful to do what He said. He was calling them to believe in what He said and to love as He loved. Being a friend of God is clearly not easy, but it should be the goal of our lifetime!

Our heart's cry must be to become a friend of God. He chose us before we could even choose Him, and He died for us before we even knew Him. He has truly remained faithful when we were faithless and loyal when we turned away. There is no greater love than that! Today I challenge you to examine your relationship with God. Have you truly accepted His invitation for friendship? Are you in the season of waiting, still fighting to believe that God's words do not return void? Are you working to keep your heart free from distraction? Are your goals aligned to accomplish His will first? It is not too late to become a friend of God!

Pray this prayer with me:

Lord, make me a good friend to you. Show me ways that I have not been loyal to you and your word. Hide your word in my heart that I may not sin against you. Help me believe every written and spoken word of God for my life!
