Whom Do You Seek - EasterSample

Have you ever washed someone’s feet before? When I was 19, and living in student housing, we decided that we would wash each other’s feet one night, as an exercise of service to each other.
It was quite confronting, (and our feet weren’t even that dirty!) – but the act of kneeling before our house mates and washing their feet was deeply moving. Conversely, letting someone else wash my feet was also quite confronting. But what was actually more difficult was taking the attitude of servant heartedness into the rest of our days.
Jesus, in washing His disciple’s feet, set an example of humble service. He showed the bickering, proud disciples, what it was to be truly great. He lowered Himself, He made Himself nothing, He laid aside His glory to serve them in a way that a revered teacher would never have been expected to do.
And with what attitude did He do it?
Jesus knew that He had all things from His father, and He knew that He was heading back to be with His father. He did it from a place of having enough and an awareness of His sure future at the right hand of God.
And we too, called to follow Jesus’ example and serve others, need to do it from an awareness of all that we have in Christ and grounded in our hope of an eternal future with Christ.
Today, ponder this: In what areas of your life could you follow the example of Jesus in serving others? As you think of practical ways of serving, consider how you could serve from a place of assurance in who you are in Christ and where you’re going.

About this Plan

The bustling streets of Jerusalem, palm branches waving as a man rides upon a donkey. A final, intimate meal with friends. The heartbreaking betrayal and the gravity of a trial. Stand in silent awe at the foot of the cross, and finally, rejoice in the triumph of the empty tomb. Follow along as we medidate on Jesus' sacrifice and the profound hope of His resurrection.
