In Step With the Spirit

DAY 2 OF 4

The Bible is called the “word of God.” The Bible is the voice of God. How often do you listen to him? There are some valuable tools that make studying the Bible much easier.

1. Invest in a good study Bible. When you know the background of a passage you can understand what it meant to the original audience. When you understand what the passage meant, you will understand what it means today. Find a study Bible authored by theologians from many denominations who wrote in their particular area of expertise. If you needed heart surgery, you wouldn’t go to an eye doctor. Consider using the same criteria for your spiritual health.
2. Find a good Bible study. Accountability and fellowship occur when Christians come together to study God’s word. Hint: Find a Bible study that spends more time in study than in “fellowship”.
3. Pray before you open God’s word. The Holy Spirit is your most important teacher. Ask him to speak to you and guide you while you study.
4. The word of God is your daily bread. Don’t skip your meal.
5. Write down what you learn. We took notes in school if we wanted an “A.”
6. Read fewer books about the Bible and more of the Bible. (Don’t tell my publisher I just said that!)
7. Obey his voice. I have never known God to make “suggestions.”
8.Share what you have learned. You may be the only source of Scripture some people ever read.

About this Plan

In Step With the Spirit

This is a personal study that is intended to help strengthen your relationship with God for this journey we call “life.” God wants us to live it well, and he has given us tools to live the abundant life Jesus came to give. Let’s choose that life, by learning how to become a faithful believer through the study of God’s word.
