Day 6: Simple Prayers

Can you imagine being with Jesus when he taught the disciples how to pray? They were eager to learn, and Jesus was ready to teach them, as we read in Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:1-4.

Reflecting on both passages, we see how Matthew and Luke share Jesus' teaching fairly similarly, with slight nuances. For instance, Matthew's account references debts and debtors. I imagine this reflects his unique perspective as a tax collector, where sin is likened to a debt we owe. Whichever passage resonates with you, you’ll find echoes of both Mathew and Luke in the prayer written below, which was inspired after I survived a major medical crisis. I saw God’s healing power in my life.

We all have different stories and testimonies, and I pray that you may bring yours personally to your prayers when you talk to God. As you read today's bible verses, ask God to help you make Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:1-4 personal to your life.

A Simple Prayer:

God, you are awesome. Holy! Faithful! You are a God who heals and restores. You know the end from the beginning. You have designed me with healing properties. May your will be done in my life as I seek you for complete healing and restoration. Help me be a good steward of my life and all you’ve given me. I embrace the daily walk and invite you in today. Forgive me when I stumble. Help me when I take offense; forgive me as I forgive others. Help me forgive others and myself, especially when it's hard and I get stuck in offense. Save me from myself and the vices of this world. Keep me from temptation and deliver me from the evil that tries to trap me in despair and defeat. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
