From Creation to Calling

DAY 15 OF 30

Jesus’ life is the literal embodiment of God’s mission to seek and save the lost, living proof of God’s pursuit of His people. During His ministry, Jesus routinely crossed cultural lines and defied expectations, sharing the message of God’s love and forgiveness with those His society rejected and proving that the message of reconciliation was for everyone. The story you’re about to read shows us Jesus’s heart for the lost. In Jesus’s day, tax collectors were treated as social outcasts. They made their wealth by taking money from their own people. Yet Jesus sought out a tax collector named Zacchaeus, and invited him to begin a new life as a member of the family of God. Zacchaeus was transformed by the love of Jesus! And when we live on mission and love like Jesus loves, God can use us to seek and find the lost, too.

Reflection Questions:

1. Have you had a “Zacchaeus experience,” a story of how God sought you out when you were lost? What did you learn about God’s heart for the lost through your own experience?

2. How does reflecting on your personal experience of God’s love inspire you to love others who don’t yet know God? When, where, and how can you join God in seeking out people who are lost?

3. If you haven’t already, consider writing out your story of how you came to know Jesus. It doesn’t have to be formal; it’s simply the story of how God has shown up in your life and transformed you for the better. Take some time to consider these questions and use them as prompts to get you started.

  • Before Christ: What was your life like before you met Jesus? What made you start thinking He could make a difference in your life?
  • How you met Christ: How did you receive Christ? What motivated you to make this decision?
  • After Christ: How did your life change after you came to Christ? What difference has He made in your attitude, priorities, and hopes for the future?
