OVERCOMING THE GRIP OF ONLINE SPORTS BETTING

Sports betting among young people is on the rapid increase worldwide. Why would that be? Generally, sports betting feels accessible to anyone, exciting and socially acceptable to many young people. It is the thing many others do! However, beneath the surface, it is often a trap that feeds on anxiety, false hope and emotional vulnerability. True security and lasting freedom can only be found in Christ, not in chasing uncertain wins. Online sports betting can seem harmless or exciting, especially when it involves your favourite team. But what starts as entertainment often turns into addiction, anxiety, or financial loss. Betting promises quick reward, but it traps many in a cycle of false hope, regret and dependency.

God's Word warns us not to chase after riches or serve money as a master. Jesus offers us something better: peace, purpose and security that no win or wager can ever provide. When we rely on betting to escape, feel powerful, or fix financial worries, we miss the freedom found in trusting God as our true provider.

Real freedom comes when we surrender our desires and ask the Lord to renew our hearts and minds. His ways may seem slower, but they lead to life, not loss.

LET US GET PRACTICAL

When life feels uncertain, do you look to money for security or to your heavenly Father, who promises to take care of you?

Check yourself, do you find yourself taking betting money from places or people without them knowing, in the hope that you will put it back as soon as you win? Each time you feel the urge to place a bet, pause and pray: "Father, I feel anxious about [name the need]. Help me to trust that You will provide." Then read Matthew 6:31-33 aloud and ask God to help you trust His timing and provision - "Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you."

PRAYER

Father, I surrender my desire for easy gain. Help me trust You to provide. Jesus, teach me contentment and show me how to handle money wisely.
