Do you ever wonder why God forgives us? Is it because He's super nice? Does He simply want to overlook the wrongs that we do out of His kindness?
Well, if He decided He was okay with our sin, He wouldn't be a good God. He'd become an unjust God. And, He is not an unjust God, He is a holy God. You see, our sin had a very real consequence, that consequence, the Bible says is death. But because of God's grace in Jesus Christ, we didn't have to pay for it with our own lives. Jesus paid that price for us - He made us right with His rightness.
Romans explains it this way…
God will also count us as righteous if we believe in him, the one who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. He was handed over to die because of our sins, and He was raised to life to make us right with God. Therefore, since we have been made right in God's sight by faith, we have peace with God, because of what Jesus our Lord has done for us.
That's Romans 4:24-25. Look it up and look for yourself. And you will see, God remained a just God and He became the one who justifies us with the blood of His own Son.
With the blood of His own Son, He paid the price for our sins so that we would go free from the punishment we deserve. And we can never be made right by anything that we do in and of ourselves. But we are made fully right by what Jesus has already done for us. God is holy. God is just, He is able. God has made us clean and right through the blood of our Lord and our Savior, Jesus Christ.
So, let's thank Him right now.
We are grateful, Jesus, thank You for paying our debt, the debt of our sin so that we can live free. Thank You for Your blood that makes us clean and thank You for saving us by Your grace. Lord, we didn't deserve it but You are so good to us. And we thank You and we pray all these things in Jesus’ name, amen.
God is just and He's the one who justifies.
