Lo Debar — Where Growth Stopped
David’s question is answered carefully. Ziba explains that someone from Saul’s house is still alive—but then comes the description. “He is crippled in his feet… and he is in Lo Debar.”
That sentence carries weight. Because Lo Debar is not just a location—it’s a condition. The name means a place of no pasture, where nothing grows, and a place of no communication, where voices go quiet.
Mephibosheth’s story makes this even heavier. Jonathan was King Saul’s son. Mephibosheth was Jonathan’s son. By lineage, he was next in line to be king. Destiny was in his bloodline. Yet instead of growing up in a palace, he lived hidden in Lo debar.
Pain has a way of interrupting purpose. And when pain lasts long enough, survival replaces growth.
Many people live in Lo Debar without realizing it. They still go to church. They still believe in God. But certain areas of their lives stopped growing a long time ago. Not because God isn’t present—but because wounds went unattended.
Ask yourself honestly today. Where has growth stalled? Is it your joy? Your trust? Your confidence? Your sense of calling?
David does not disqualify Mephibosheth because of his condition or location. He does not say, “Bring him when he heals.” He sends for him as he is.
Jesus does the same. He does not wait for you to grow before calling you closer. He calls you closer so growth can begin again.
Reflection Questions:
What led me to my Lo Debar?
Which areas of my life are no longer growing?
Prayer:
Lord, call me out of places where growth has stopped.
Declaration:
I am not meant to remain in Lo Debar.
