Be honest: What’s your initial response to Jesus’ call here? For some, it’s an exciting invitation, but for others, it’s more of an intimidating task. What feels like a challenge worth taking on to one person might feel like a rigid requirement to another. No matter how the call to share the gospel feels to you, it’s important to remember these are real words really said by the real Son of God on earth. These are, in fact, some of His famous last words. They’re part of some of the final things He said before His physical presence left the earth. They’re not said as a command or even a challenge; they’re said as an invitation.
God wants to invite us into the story He’s writing in the world. And Jesus’ words here do just that! They offer us the invitation to step into the building of God’s Kingdom in the here and now. The chance to share the good news we’ve found in Christ with those around us. It’s nothing Jesus is asking of us that He hasn’t demonstrated, equipped, or shown us in His ministry. No, He’s given us all we need to answer this call with confidence. With that in mind, we don’t need to read these words with fear or hesitancy. We can read them simply as an invitation we’re honored to accept.
Read the verse again, picturing the person of Jesus saying it to you. How do you respond differently, reading it as an invitation to follow Him and join His work?

We’ve all had those experiences that are so real and impactful to us that we want other people to know about them, too. More than just telling the people in our lives about it, we want them to feel it, to get it, to care about it, and even experience it the way we do. And for followers of Jesus, our faith is a message of hope we simply can’t keep to ourselves. In this devotional, we’re going to look at what it means to share the gospel of Jesus with the world around us.
