DON’T LOOK BACK

Have you begun transitioning out of survival mode? If so, that’s great! But it can feel risky. You must set your heart and mind to trust in the unfailing love of God so you will not stay stuck in that past season after God has called you out.

God sent angels to guide Lot and his family to safety when He was about to destroy their town. The angels warned Lot’s family, “Escape for your life. Do not look back or stop anywhere in the valley” (Genesis 19:17 ESV).

It sounds simple enough. But as Lot’s family fled from the fire and brimstone that fell on Sodom, Lot’s wife looked back. Something in her past seemed to be pulling her, calling her to look back. As a result, she turned into a pillar of salt.

Have you ever been in a situation where you just had to get one last look? Maybe it was a relationship you knew you shouldn’t have been in. You knew the Lord was pulling you out, but you just had to have one last look.

Looking back on what God asked you to leave behind will cause you to be stuck or to experience spiritual decay.

While God can restore you after a lapse, wouldn’t it be better to obey Him from the beginning? Why lose time when you can stay on track with God for the next season He’s lined up for you?

Jesus says something interesting in Luke 9:62: “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God” (NKJV).

God’s kingdom is always expanding, advancing, and moving forward (Matthew 11:12). We have no place in His kingdom if we long to stay stuck in an old place or outdated season when God is calling us forward.

Say goodbye to the old, because you are stepping into a new thing.

Father, I willingly release all things, experiences, relationships, connections, and even people that are no longer serving Your vision for my future. I make the decision to move ahead and not look back to where You have delivered me from. Amen.
