ABIDE IN CHRIST

Jesus calls us disciples. This means that we are to be students of the Word. We are not just to be labeled as Christians who have a form of godliness; we are supposed to be disciplined to show forth Christ to others. For this reason, it’s important that we are always growing in our walk with the Lord.

Being in Christ is not about a life of religious duty but about an intimate relationship with Christ. We follow the principles of Jesus because we love Him (John 14:15). This is true intimacy.

The sisters Mary and Martha give us an example. Mary understood the importance of being in the room with Jesus, sitting at His feet, and learning from Him. Martha, however, was burdened with serving. Jesus affirmed that Mary had made the better choice (Luke 10:38-42).

Jesus said, “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples” (John 15:7-8 ESV). Some of us get so wrapped up in doing for God that we forget the greater importance of abiding with God. But don’t be distracted, don’t be burdened by what’s not necessary. Sit at His feet.

It’s time that you accept God’s call and purpose for your life. It’s time that you shift fully out of surviving through everyday life—just merely existing—and start living fully in Him. By surrendering your life, your plans, and your desires completely to Christ as Lord, you will shift into a beautiful existence of worshiping God, serving others, and building the life you were truly created for.

Lord Jesus, draw me deeper into a life of abiding in You. Quiet every distraction in my heart so that I choose Your presence above busyness and duty. Teach me to sit at Your feet, love Your Word, and bear fruit that brings glory to the Father. Amen.
