Walking Through Easter

DAY 4 OF 5

Day 4: His Body Broken for Us

At the Last Supper, Jesus gave His disciples a visible picture of what He was about to do. He took bread and said, “This is my body given for you” (Luke 22:19). He took the cup and said, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you” (Luke 22:20).

The Passover meal was transformed. No longer would it only point back to Egypt. It would now point forward to the cross.

The new covenant promised in Jeremiah 31 included forgiveness of sins and a restored relationship with God. Jesus declared that His blood would establish that covenant.

Communion reminds believers of both the cost and the promise of salvation. His body was broken. His blood was poured out. On the day Jesus died that horrific death on a cross, forgiveness was purchased.

The proper response to Christ’s sacrifice is faith. Salvation is received by trusting in Christ alone. As we remember what He has done, we are also reminded of the message entrusted to us: forgiveness is available because of Jesus’ sacrifice. Let’s share this message today with someone who needs to know that Jesus came and died so that we can be forgiven.

Reflection:

  • What does the Lord’s Supper teach you about the seriousness of sin?
  • How can you explain the meaning of the cross to someone who asks?

Prayer:
Father, thank You for the new covenant established through Christ’s blood. Help me never to take lightly what Jesus endured. Strengthen me to share this Good News faithfully. Amen.

About this Plan

Walking Through Easter

In this 5-day devotional, you will walk through key moments of Easter week: the Triumphal Entry, the fulfillment of the Passover, Jesus’ prayer in Gethsemane, the Last Supper, and the cross. Each day is rooted in Scripture and centered on the core truths of the Gospel—Christ’s substitutionary death, the forgiveness of sins, and the righteousness given to all who trust in Him. As you reflect on the cost of redemption, you will also be reminded of your calling and strengthened in your confidence in sharing it with others during this meaningful season.
