Exodus: From Suffering to Salvation

DAY 4 OF 7

Knowing the God Who Provides For Me

At the shores of the Red Sea, God provided not just a way through the waters, but also an image of what Jesus would later become. We were trapped in our sin, so He became the only way—the dry ground for us to walk on in our journey back to God.

In Exodus, God reveals Himself as the Provider, the One who gives us what we cannot attain on our own.

In this clip, watch how God made a way for His people through an impossible situation. When they thought all was lost, God gave them a way forward.

In the same way today, God provides our mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual deliverance; Jesus made it clear in His time on Earth that He cares about us. In Matthew 14, seeing the hungry faces of thousands of His followers, Jesus multiplied one boy’s lunch into a plentiful feast.

We do not know their exact reactions, but one can wonder if Jesus’ miraculous provision reminded the crowd of the Exodus stories they heard as children—stories of God hearing the hungry cries of their ancestors in the wilderness and providing them with daily meals of manna and quail.

Seeing the pattern of the Exodus story playing out in Scripture should cause us to recognize the spaces in our own lives where we need a Provider. Gaps in our budget, overwhelming schedules, or a challenging diagnosis - these challenges shine a spotlight on our inability to do everything.

Whatever the shortages are in your life, you can bring them to God and trust that He still is the God who provides for His children—for us. He is still the God who intervenes on our behalf. Jesus put it this way,

“‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”

So, at the shores of your “Red Sea,” in the midst of your inadequacies, know that God is ready and available for you to call on. It may not come in the way you expect, but through the great Provider, you will see the waters part.

Reflection:

In what ways has God provided a way in your life where there was no other?

Prayer:

God, You are my great Provider. Help me to trust You in every area of my life. Amen.
