The Law of the Shadow

In the economy of God, a leader’s life and doctrine are inseparable. Paul tells Timothy to "watch" both. Why? Because you cannot out-preach your life. Your character is the substance, and your influence is the shadow. If the substance of your secret life is hollow, the shadow you cast on your church will be distorted. We often try to "fix" our reputation, but Paul calls us to fix our gaze on our own hearts. Today, realize that the health of your congregation is a mirror of your own spiritual interior.

Reflection/Action: Take a "shadow inventory." Look at the people you lead. Are you seeing fruit in them that you haven't yet cultivated in yourself? Ask God for the grace to be the substance of what you want them to become.

Prayer: Lord, help me to realize that I am my loudest sermon. Let my private walk be so heavy with Your presence that the shadow I cast is one of grace and truth. Amen.
