Satan's defeat Pt. 2  

Thoughts on the Passage

With Jesus now in heaven – the cross is behind Him. Satan is now cast out of heaven and he no longer can accuse people before God. Before the cross, satan still had the right to accuse mankind. Mankind, the angelic realm and the demonic realm are bound by time; we must wait until the death of Jesus on the cross to set us free from sin. Before then, satan accused mankind with great vigor. After the cross, everything is different. The war in heaven now is fought on different terms. Satan has no standing before God – the accuser has nothing left to hold on to. The battle is a quick one and satan is cast out of heaven.

This is the third defeat that satan suffers – He is cast out of heaven. He has lost the right to accuse us before God. He no longer has the ability of accusing us before God. This is so important to understand. Today, God does not listen to any accusation against us from satan, because the blood of Jesus covers our sin. When we listen to satan’s voice accusing us – we are giving him authority that he does not have. When we have received forgiveness from Jesus, we stand before God without this accuser. Yes, we still sin and do things that are wrong. We need to deal with those sins; God will hold us accountable for them. However, satan has no right to accuse us before God and demand that He condemn us. 

Prayer

Father, satan is on a long journey down. Today, we see he has lost the right to accuse me and the rest of God’s people before You. This is an amazing privilege to stand before the Holy One of heaven without anyone or anything able to accuse us. Father, I want this understanding clearly burned into my heart. I want to make sure that I do not let my failures cause me to come before You as an accused man. I will come seeking forgiveness when I sin, but I never want to come accused by my own heart or anyone else’s words. The blood of Jesus has been shed for all sin, and I will come freely into Your presence seeking forgiveness. Also, Father, keep my heart from accusing my brothers and sisters. They do not need another accuser! They need a brother who will walk with them – lovingly, boldly and graciously helping them to the throne of God to get forgiveness as well. We all need that. In Jesus Name, Amen.
