Day 2 - God Rescues Me

When I was 22, I broke up with my boyfriend after 5 years. I thought we were going to get married, have kids and live happily ever after, but that was not the case. Heartbroken and lost, I cried out to God, “If you want me to go to church, the only way I’ll go is if someone invites me.” Within five minutes, my boyfriend’s sister had invited me to Hope Chapel on Friday. I looked up to heaven and started to cry because I couldn’t believe God heard my thoughts. I was in awe that God heard and cared about me enough to have someone call and invite me to church that very moment.

When we receive Jesus as Lord and Savior, we experience overwhelming peace on the inside. While we may not feel worthy of being a Christian, Jesus washes us clean, scrubbing our heart and giving us a new heart. Although our problems may not be solved at once, our lives will never be the same.

When God rescues us, He gives us a new start in life with new friends and a new future. It is important to grow in our faith by joining a connect group and by serving. As we study the Bible and learn how to pray, we discover that God not only hears us, but answers our prayers. God begins to give us a sense of purpose for our lives. We need to be careful that we do not allow fear to prevent us from moving forward. Often we may feel unworthy and unqualified to do what God has planned for our lives.

Psalm 37:5 says to “Commit everything you do to the Lord, trust Him, and He will help you.” Imagine the picture of a line being drawn on the ground. Trusting in God is like walking over the line, not knowing what is on the other side. Whether or not we feel qualified, we must trust that the Lord will help us accomplish His purposes for us, regardless of how great the task. We must be willing to trust in God and say yes. What are your gifts and talents? Are you a leader or skillful at administration? If we do not say yes to God, we may never discover our strengths and learn to flourish.
