Jesus Revealed Pt. 19 - He Has Risen!Exemplo
Peter do you love Me? Pt. 1
Thoughts on the Passage
“Peter do you love Me?”
There is more to this than what we read in the English language. There are two different words that are translated “love” in the New Testament and they are both used here. The first is “phileo” – friendship love. The second is “agape” love – sacrificial love.
Jesus asks Peter if he loves (agape) Him. Peter replies that he loves (phileo) Him.
Jesus asks Peter again if he loves (agape) Him. Peter replies that he loves (phileo) Him.
Jesus asks Peter a third time if he loves (phileo) Him. Peter replies that he loves (phileo) Him.
Then Jesus tells Peter that in the future, Peter will, at some time in the future, be asked to die for Jesus. Peter’s love for Jesus must grow to an agape love.
How will Peter’s love grow like this?
By following Jesus.
Also, it is important to see another key point. Jesus will use Peter even if his love does not rise to the level of love Jesus is asking. Jesus calls Peter to:
1) feed His lambs
2) take care of His sheep
3) feed His sheep.
Jesus calls Peter to be a pastor – a shepherd. This role requires an agape love – a sacrificial love. Jesus will help him get there.
Application
Is the task God gives us too big for us? Is it beyond our strength and capability? We are in good company!
God calls us to just follow Jesus – He will grow our love for Jesus to handle what the task requires.
Jesus will use us now – not just when we get our act together. The task God asks of us is greater than we can handle. Our sufficiency (ability to do the job) is from God.
Time to Pray
Father, help me to remember Peter. You allowed Peter to fail when he relied on his own strength. You promised to use him even when he failed and felt he could not live up to the standard You called him to live at. You gave him a talk too big for him – and promised to walk with Peter through it. I need that today. I need the promise for my life today. I need Your strength and encouragement today. Help all of us today. We need Your strength and Your help. We need Jesus walking with us through the task. Just like Peter, we will make it. Help us to walk with You whatever the cost. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Sobre este plano
What would your response be if you saw someone die, their death was confirmed, and then see them walking around the next week? Most of us would do a double take in disbelief.. In Plan 19 we see the resurrected Jesus appear to certain people before going home to the Father. Is seeing Jesus important to you? Is it a good thing to want this?
